INKTOBER 2024 Day #8: HIKE.
“Okay, yeah, I could have actually gone with the more obvious interpretation of the prompt. I have spent a fair amount of time hiking. I enjoy it. I like being outside, I like the physical challenge of summiting a mountain. I like seeing unique bits of nature like trees growing on or through rocks, waterfalls and pools of water of various sizes, crazy root structures, cool rocks and boulders, the way the sunlight filters through the tree canopy, and everything caked in moss. I love the views at the top. I usually wish I could spend more time on the summit whenever I’ve hiked, either with my family or with scouts. Like, I’d enjoy spending the night.
What I get to look at while I’m hiking has always fueled my imagination. Sometimes it’s a view that would make a great backdrop for an illustration (with the addition of fantastical characters). Sometimes it’s looking up close at small details and imagining they were huge, which usually conjures up ideas for settings for stories. Sometimes it’s just the quality of light or the natural textures that surround me, trying to absorb them and understand them so I can interpret what I’ve seen into future art.
But no, I thought ‘hiking up your shorts’ was more amusing. No one likes wet shorts.”
