Inktober 2023 Day #1: Dream

“Inktober 2023 kicks off with a repeat prompt from Inktober 52 2023: dream. I’m not complaining, the whole concept of ‘dreams’ is pretty big for me. In addition to having some pretty vivid and wacky dreams, I’ve always been a daydreamer, and that has been a huge inspiration for a lot of my art. I have been living with the story of ‘Revery’ in my head for at least two decades, and it’s all about dreams on multiple levels. This repeat prompt was just another excuse for me to visit that world and explore some concepts and visuals.

Plunger Monkey is learning the art of redirecting the Dream Comets from the Dream Wave with the help of Adarax, one of the main characters in ‘Revery’. This composition is a new take on a very old concept sketch I dug up recently. Adarax’s look has changed a bit, and I’m slowly fleshing out some of the details of the world, the environments, the tools, etc. One thing I still struggle with is how to illustrate the Dream Wave itself. It’s kind of like a massive, undulating, turbulent, semi-fluid-like river of energy, but it’s visually still very vague in my mind.”
