INKTOBER 2024 Day #15: GUIDEBOOK.

“’Don’t Panic!’ Those are the words written on ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’ in the fictional comedy science fiction series ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’. That sentence is confusing, but it’s accurate. I read the collection of novels in my mid-twenties and immediately enjoyed it (it has also been a radio play, a tv series, a stage show, comic books, and a movie). There’s so much I don’t remember about it now (I’ve been meaning to reread it). I think I read it during a busy time of life, perhaps when we started having kids, so there were probably gaps in between reading sessions, which always makes it tough to remember what’s going on. That and it’s been about two decades (no it hasn’t…). Despite that, I do remember that it was absurd and hilarious, so totally ‘my kind of thing’. The story kicks off with an alien race destroying earth to make way for some kind of intergalactic spaceway, and one of the only human survivors is Arthur Dent, who winds up on the alien ship. I do remember that the characters are unique and crazy, there was mention of an alien species that was a sentient form of the color blue, having a towel was a sign of an experienced traveler because towels are so versatile, and the meaning of life is 42 (you’ll have to read the books to find out why…and I don’t exactly remember myself). I don’t remember the significance of the crazy smiley face thing, but it’s on the cover and is pretty iconic.
This one was a lot of fun to work on, though the hand lettering was tedious. So was all the hatching. I think I killed another pen.”
