Project Description
INKTOBER 2024 Day #17: JOURNAL.
“I’ve kept journals on and off over the course of my life. I think I still have them, though there’s plenty of cringey and embarrassing stuff in there that should probably get destroyed before I die and my loved ones uncover them. Maybe I should just go through and redact those parts but leave the other bits that are more of a window into who I was and what life was like at the time. I suppose it’s a bit arrogant or conceited to harbor the thought that anyone would want to read that stuff, but I’ve always thought it would be fascinating to read things my parents or grandparents might have written down about their lives, so maybe my kids do or will feel the same. I got to read a handful of letters my pepere wrote home to my memere while he was overseas during WWII. As fascinating as his stories about what he was experiencing were (and he was limited as to what he could share), what was more captivating was having the window into who he was when he was younger and his burgeoning relationship with my memere.
I also remember a handful of stories my grampa told about his youth and the nicknames of some of his friends (like Squitzy Squire and Turkey Thurston). I wish they had been written down. I’ve encouraged my parents to write down some of their memories, too. I have a couple of open ‘notes’ on my phone where I sporadically jot down childhood memories when they come to me, as well as my crazier dreams. I guess I’m afraid of forgetting.
Speaking of dreams, I didn’t dream about Tractor-Man. That was more of a random thought or daydream (that I refer to as PMD Brainisms) that came out of nowhere one day and I find it hilarious. There is definitely a PMD superhero universe tumbling around in the dark recesses of my Brain that will undoubtedly see the light of day eventually.”
