INKTOBER 2024 Day #27: ROAD.

“Like many (probably mostly male) children of the 80s, I was a fan of wrestling. There has always been a dark side to the industry and a lot of unsavory people running things and performing in the ring, but I was ignorant of all that back then. As a young kid, it wasn’t hard to look up to these giant human beings who in some ways were as close to superheroes in the flesh as one could get. Some of the gimmicks, costumes, and personalities were over the top or cheesy, some were silly, some were downright hilarious, and some were just plain cool. To this day, two of the best walk-out costumes belonged to Hawk and Animal, the duo known as ‘The Road Warriors’. I don’t remember what their in-ring skills were like or whether or not they were fun to watch, but I do remember getting excited anytime they walked out simply because they were two giant guys with really awesome (to a kid) ‘armor’ (which was just football pads with spikes). They looked tough. I debated whether or not to give PMD the spikes, I was tempted to go the ‘cool’ route, but having plungers was just too funny to me.”
