INKTOBER 52 2024 Week #1: HUNT. “’Be wery, wery quiet. I’m huntin’…monkey?!’ I seriously hope there isn’t a ‘monkey season’ somewhere in the world, but I’m too concerned that there probably is to look that up. The ‘Looney Toons’ and Bugs Bunny in particular were a staple of my cartoon watching growing up. The wackiness and the slapstick antics definitely helped shape my own, sometimes absurd, sense of humor. I loved how characters like Bugs would bend reality or break the fourth wall and talk to the audience. Plunger Monkey probably wouldn’t communicate via signs if it weren’t for Wile E. Coyote. There was so much iconic art and visual style packed into each cartoon, and the cartoons were interesting (and sometimes regrettable) windows into the times they were created in. I think it’s also pretty cool that ‘Looney Toons’ are the reason so many individuals from many different generations are familiar with famous pieces of classical music.
