INKTOBER 52 2024 Week #9: BALLOON.

“Does this qualify as ‘meta’ or something? Self-aware? Kind of breaking the fourth wall? I don’t know what to say about this one, other than I personally find it hilarious. I can’t quite remember anymore when, how, or why I decided PMD ‘spoke’ via Wile E. Coyote signs. For quite a number of years he did speak through word balloons, though he didn’t say much. It would certainly be a lot easier for me to use balloons whenever he has longer thoughts or more complex things to say, it’s tough to fit more than a few lines on a sign without it becoming crowded, way too big (outside of using that to be intentionally funny), or the words being so small they are illegible. I’ve had him hold multiple signs before, sometimes even with his tail, but they don’t stack and flow the way word balloons traditionally do. I guess it kind of forces me to do more with his facial expressions and body language, as well as to distill what he needs to convey down to it’s simplest state so that it fits on a sign, and therein probably lies some of his charm.”
