A nod to two bits of pop culture in this strip: Alien and The Incredible Hulk. I’m not sure exactly when the idea popped into my head for the carnivorous desert tacos to have burrito tongues (with teeth), but I thought it was hilarious. I think it was panel 3 that finally pushed me over the edge into creating some custom speed line brushes in Photoshop, they have been a huge time saver and they look a lot crisper than anything I can produce by hand. I spent a fair chunk of my youth drawing the standard, jacked super-heroes, so it was fun to have PMD hulk out. This is where I was really trying to explore different line weights and contours to give a sense of volume and muscle separation the way Frank Cho so masterfully does.
