Project Description
This was a concept piece I did back in 2004ish from an epic graphic novel fantasy I refer to as Wilhelm (the first inklings of the story came to me in 1998, but even today it’s still too sparse of an actual story to have a proper name, so instead of describing the story when I need to reference it to people I have talked to about it, I use the short hand “Wilhelm”). I was trying out a new (to me) technique, while juggling being a first time stay-at-home dad, of doing a traditional pencil drawing, scanning it, printing it, mounting it to Bristol board, painting it (with acrylics), scanning it again, then adding special effects and touch ups in Photoshop (with a mouse, ugh). While it was nice to be able to get dirty and use real paint, the process was just way too inefficient and clunky. I can do all of that now, with a lot more tools and options at my disposal, working completely digitally, though I do miss getting covered in paint and graphite.
